Residencies and Community Art Learning Projects
Kawambe-Omowale is listed on the Arizona Commission on the Arts (ACA) Arizona Artists Roster under the "Performing Folk Arts" category. The ACA provides a variety of funding options including Artists in Residence and Community Enrichment Grants. Additionally, the ACA also provides Quick Turnaround Grants that can fund projects outside ACA's annual grant cycle. Art projects can consist of many combinations of our services. Residencies for schools or community groups funded through the ACA, with a performance company of our size, must minimally be conducted with three artists who would present workshops with a selected core group of 15 to 20 students a minimum of three times within a five day residency. Additionally, the ACA requires one professional development teacher in-service. Other components of a residency could include lecture demonstrations, large group workshop(s) of 25 to 35 students and a concert with core student group(s) participation. A culminating concert is an option for meeting ACA's requirement for community involvement. However, the Presenter (school or community group) could construct other options to achieve community involvement as well. Presenters and artists plan together to achieve the desired goals and ACA residency requirements by combining the options in service elements indicated above. Art projects are initiated by schools and school districts, Boys and Girls Clubs, parks and recreation programs, arts organizations, neighborhood centers, museums, libraries, social service organizations and YMCA’s. Artist in Residence and Community Enrichment Grants provide matching funds to support the fees, travel and per diem expenses for artists providing arts learning residencies. These programs focus on student learning and may additionally provide professional development services. For application details and complete information, click on the appropriate link below:
